After graduating from the Department of Arts, Hangzhou Normal College, I worked as a local radio music DJ. In 2007, I founded Bu San Bu Si, where I work as the brand doll designer and Director of Operations.

Our E-idea prize will enable us to conduct DIY sock doll-making workshops in several Chinese cities, and establish partnerships with museums and other public institutions. We will also commercialize new lines of products made from recycled goods. In so doing, we will teach design skills and promote environmental awareness and social entrepreneurship. Our long-term objective is to enhance substantially the profile and prominence of our brand and thus demonstrate the business opportunities available for low carbon industries.

Bu San Bu Si is a successful, cutting edge design studio that has worked with corporate clients such as SWATCH, and also produced its own line of cute, handmade dolls that are sold in China and Western Europe. The designers also conduct popular workshops in which they teach participants to make their own dolls from old socks and tap the participants’ inner creativity by exploring the artistic and business potential in even the most mundane of used objects. The workshops are a fun way to deliver important messages about recycling and low carbon lifestyles, and the aim of this ‘step-up’ project is to host workshops in cities around the country, generate media coverage, and cooperate with public institutions to promote sustainable lifestyles and sustainable business models to a wide audience.
By participating in the 2011 E-idea competition, we recognise that low carbon life is an issue that is closely related to everyone rather than merely the concern of environmentalists, government, and academia. Low carbon living is “not just talk” but a new way of living that is worth promoting further. At the same time, E-idea provides us a broader platform, and is a powerful driving force to empower young people to understand and practice recycling, and to adopt low carbon lifestyles.
